John W. Curry, son of James and Mary Curry, was born in Lincoln Co., TN, Dec. 3, 1821; departed this life at his home in Ash Grove, Shelby Co., IL, Aug. 4, 1890. He was married to Mary Catherine Bennett, Feb. 23, 1843. To them were born eight children, six of whom, with his wife, preceded him to the spirit land. Two are still living, viz Dr. Wm. Curry of Rogers, AR and George Curry of Ash Grove, IL, both of whom were present to mingle their tears at their father's grave. Mr. Curry was again married to Faithey Shores, Mar. 5, 1876; she survived him. He united with the Christian church under the ministry of Tobias Grider on Sep. 10, 1851; and ever lived a consistent Christian life, always filling his place and duty in the House of the Lord. The church has lost a faithful worker, the family a kind and loving husband, father and brother, the community a good citizen and neighbor, esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral services were conducted by Elders Warren and Harrell in the presence of one of the largest assemblies ever gathered at that place. The burial took place in the Ash Grove cemetery. Peace to thy rest and love to thy memory till Jesus comes to be glorified in His Saints and admired in all that love Him. A. H. H. Windsor Gazette - Thursday - 7 Aug 1890
