Benedict Baus

Benedict Baus, Retired Farm Resident, Dies. Native Of County Expires At Home In St. Cloud At Age Of 67. Benedict Baus, 67, retired farmer, merchant and hotel owner, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday at his home at St. Cloud after a brief illness. He was stricken Monday noon. Born Aug. 29, 1873, in the Town of Forest, son of Martin and Lucy Baus, he had always resided in the community. He was married in 1901 at St. Cloud to Miss Rose Dietz. Mr. Baus conducted a general store in St. Cloud in company with his brother, Val, and later operated a hotel in the village, subsequently becoming a farmer. He retired a few years ago. Surviving are his widow, six sons and daughters, Mrs. John Young of Milwaukee, Roman of Hartford, Mrs. Guy Johnson of Chicago and John, Agnes and Joseph of St. Cloud; five grandchildren; two brothers, George and Val of St. Cloud and a sister, Mrs. Nick Faber of this city. Four children preceded Mr. Baus in death. A member of St. Claudius church, St. Cloud, Mr. Baus was affiliated with the Holy Name society and St. Claudius society. The body is lying in state at the Lisowe funeral home at St. Cloud, where funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. from St. Claudius church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Funeral services for Benjamin Baus of St. Cloud were held Friday from the Lisowe funeral home in the village and at 10 a.m. from St. Claudius church. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Ott, Henry Mertes, Henry Abler, John Franzen, Wendel Mueller and Henry Wehner. Active bearers were Ben M. Baus, Alfred Baus, Martin Baus, Leslie Entringer, John Faber and Ben Faber. St. Claudius society of which Mr. Baus was member, attended in a body. Persons attending the rites included Mr. and Mrs. Nick Dietz, Mrs. Frances Darnieder, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Johnson, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker, Dr. and Mrs. E.P. Baus, Mrs. Gene Schneider, Mrs. Margaret Young, Mrs. Cornelius Young, Mrs. George Young and Mrs. Harvey Tidmarsh of Milwaukee. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Faber and family, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Entringer, Mrs. Sabina Diedrich, Mrs. Margaret Muellenbach, Mrs. Louise Dreifuerst, Mr. and Mrs. John Gutman, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Petrie, Mr. and Mrs. George Sippel, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Klinzing and John Wehner of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Keller of Berlin, Dr. and Mrs. Kropp and Mrs. C.B. Sweeting of Manitowoc and many from the surrounding community.
