The Emporia News - Thursday, March 29, 1883 - "Wedding Anniversary - On the evening of March 22d the neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Bishop of Fremont township, to the number of about seventy-five, by invitation repaired to their residence to assist in celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary. All were received by the kind host and hostess in such a way as to make the evening full of enjoyment to all present. During the evening a splendid oyster supper was served with all the necessary appendages to make it first-class throughout. This part was presided over by Marion Bishop and wife who fully understood their duties, the cakes being the very best that could be produced. Soon after the guests arrived the many presents brought by them were exhibited and admired by all. The following is a complete list of the gifts: Elegant lamp and mat, Mr. and Mrs. and James and Lena Fife. Set of china plates, Mrs. Jane ? Guriny. Set of china cups and saucers, Mr. and Mrs. John Hammond. Spoon holder and butter knife, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Klock. Cake stand, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hollingsworth. Set of silver knives and forks, Joe and Alf Hammond, T. Zeise and C. Gardner. Fruit dish, Mr. and Mrs. M. Wells. Bread plate and fruit dish, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Doile. Tea set, Mr. and Mrs. Murl Courtwright and C. E. Gibson. Mush and milk set, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Wells. Cheese dish, Tom and Ida Doile. Butter dish, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Knox. Nut dish, Mrs. D. W. Gibson. Set of vases, Viola Moon and Maggie Bishop. Lamp and globe, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Plumb. Pickle dish, Howard Hammond. Pitcher, Mr. and Mrs. Rouch. Ink stand and pen rack, A. and R. A. Hurlburt. Pickle dish, Lizzie Hollingsworth. Salt dish, Edna Fife. Pin cushion, Cora Sponsler, Pepper box, Homer and Harry Wells. Fold pen in case, Samuel Hess. Dress pattern, Mrs. M. H. Knouse. Counterpane, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Bishop. At the close of the evening all went home wishing the worthy couple happiness during the remainder of this life's journey.

The Emporia Gazette, 19 February 1906, Page 7 - "Mrs. S. P. Bishop Dead, Mrs. S. P. Bishop died this morning at 2 o'clock, at her home, three miles northeast of town, near the Rinker ford. Heart failure was the cause of her death. Mrs. Bishop was about 68 years old. She leaves a husband, a daughter, and three sons. The sons are J. M. Bishop, of Poplar Bluffs, Mo.; W. D. Bishop, of Topeka; and C. A. Bishop, who lives in Emporia. The Bishops are among the oldest settlers of Lyon county, having lived on the farm near Rinker ford nearly forty years. The funeral will be held Wednesday at the home, at 2 o'clock.
