Graveside services and interment for John Quincy Adams, 83, were held April 21 at the Horseshoe Cemetery near Glendo, with Rev. Gordon Swedberg officiating. Mr. Adams died April 17, 1992 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.
He was born April 14, 1909 in Douglas, the son of William Ernest and Josephine (Jarachow) Adams. He was reared and educated in Douglas, graduating from the Douglas High School in 1929. Following graduation he worked on the Platte Valley Ranch near Orin Junction, worked for the CCC in Arizona during the depression, and then worked for CF&I at the Sunrise Mine in Sunrise, Wyoming.
He was married to Rose Anna Hytrek on Aug. 16, 1941 in Wheatland. They owned and operated a ranch in the Glendo area, and he lived at the ranch until the time of his death. He was an avid hunter and gardener.
He is survived by his children, William E. Adams of Lafayette, La., and Joanna Lawrence of Wheatland; sister-in-law Eva Adams of Austin, Texas and two grandchildren, Quincy Rose Adams and Rick Lawrence both of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on June 28, 1972; and one brother William E. Adams.
A memorial to the Glendo Volunteer Fire Department would be appreciated by the family. The Platte Funeral Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of arrangements.
