Alexander was the youngest child of Adam and Catharine (Pastre) Bruner. Born in Germany. Came to America in 1831 where he and his family settled in Ohio. Married Lydia A. Minehart in Ohio prior to moving to Linn County in 1850. Eleven children were born to this union; see list under Lydia A. Bruner also buried in this cemetery. Alexander died in Tennessee and was brought back to Iowa for his burial.
