Nat was the first born of Morris and Jenny Woodward. He became deaf at an early age because of a fever. Nat was named for his grandfather Joseph & Great grandfather Nathaniel Samples Dennis. His mothers father & grandfather.

Nat attended the Deaf School in Ogden UT until he graduated. It was a boarding school and he only came home in the summer months. Christmas was spent at school.
Morris took Nat to Price, UT which was no small task in those days, and put him on the train to go to Ogden. Nat learned to sign and was well educated. He also had a cousin William Woodward (Willy) that was his age & also deaf. They were good companions. Willy lived in Kaysville UT and would come to visit Nat & Jen in Neola.

Nat's brothers were Glen, Charley, Cliff, Lawrence, Aaron & a sister Grace W Dye. Also a infant who died at birth Son W.
Joseph Nathaniel(Nat) was a very loving man and was a blessing to his mother. He was her devoted care taker for may years.
