J. W. Adkins, 64, of 2405 Shirley, a resident of Fort Worth most of his life, died Friday night in a Dallas hospital after a long illness.
He retired in 1947 as a switchman for the T&P Railway after 41 years service. He was a veteran of World War I, a Roman Catholic and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Local 81.
Adkins was born in Grandview but came to Fort Worth at an early age.
He is survived by his wife; two stepsons, Hugh L. Watson and Harold E. Brown of Fort Worth; three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Beaverly of Wheatland, Okla., Mrs. Callie Miller of Fort Worth and Mrs. Billie McGee of Dallas; two brothers, Starling Adkins of Mesquite and Tommy Adkins of Grand Paririe.
Robertson-Mueller-Harper will announce funeral arrangements.
