In Memoriam
Died, Sept. 18th, 1888, in Johnson City, Tenn., Mrs. Amanda M. Maupin, consort of G. P. Maupin, age 30 years and five months.

For many months she had suffered from the fell destroyer consumption, but she bore her affliction with becoming Christian fortitude.

In early life she confided her faith in Christ and obeyed him in the institution appointed to bring her into the church, and was a faithful, warm-hearted christian, until life's brittle cord was severed.

When it became certain that her earthly journey way nearly ended, she was asked on what her future hopes of happiness were based, her reply was, on Christ as the meritorious cause, and her obedience to his commandments and faithful christian life as the means of enjoyment.

Knowing that her days were nearly ended and that she would be permitted no more to attend the House of the Lord, being desirous to commemorate the death and suffering of the Savior in her own room on Lord's day, Sept. 16th, the writer, J. C. Hardin, and others complied with her wishes.

The service gave her great comfort. In the last days of her suffering she often spoke of her departure, and always in the strongest assurance of her future happiness. Her only regrets were the separation from her beloved husband, her five dear children and the circle of relatives and friends she was leaving behind.

Though we weep for the loss we sustain we do not grieve as those who have no hope, but say,

Go to thy rest; and while
Thy absence we deplore,
One thought our sorrows shall beguile;
For soon, with celestial smile,
We meet to part no more.
