a confederate soldier, Matt died in captivity in the Union Hospital, Ft Delaware, husband and father of 5. His daughter Nancy Hibert has not been found to link.

He was the son of Richard Chinouth and Patsy Ellis. The graves of Matt's parents have not been located. He had 8 siblings, seven of whom married: Amanda Hughes, Ruth Fox, John Chinouth (who went to Illinois), William Chinowth , Elizabeth Jane Dyer , Richard Chinouth (who died a young man in the Civil War), Hannah Eliza Dyer (husband Thomas Dyer), and Martha Jane Chase (who went to Texas). Two of his brothers also fought for the South, only one surviving the conflict.
