Francis H. McDonald was born near Montezuma, in Poweshiek county, Iowa, August 26, 1861, and died at his home near Big Sandy, Montana, February 28, 1918.
Mr. McDonald, like multitudes of self-made men, was cultured by the adversities of life, and made his own way in the world from early manhood.
In 1890, Mr. McDonald was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Sloan, of Grinnell, Iowa. Two children were born to them: Guy L. McDonald and Mrs. Edith Jarnagan, both of Big Sandy. Mrs. McDonald died in 1892.
Mr. McDonald was married again, March 2, 1894, to Miss Katherine Sparks, of Grinnell, Iowa. To this union eight children were born: Franklin McDonald of Grinnell, Ia., Ethel Jensen, Leland, Dewey, Eva, Iceline, Charles and Chetta, all of Big Sandy.
Mr. McDonald moved to Montana in the fall of 1916, where he took up a homestead near Big Sandy, and resided there until the time of his death.
He lived an upright, honorable life and was a kind and loving husband and father. With his wife and children, he leaves a father, two brothers, and one sister to mourn his loss. Today the sorrowing family feel that their loss is his gain.
