Died - At his residence, in Richland township, on the 27th of January, 1876, Michael Brown, in the 82d year of his age. Mr. Brown was born in Ireland, June 6th 1794. He came to America when about seven years of age, and resided in Jefferson county, Ohio, till the Fall of 1839 when he immigrated to Shelby county, Illinois, settling in Richland township where he resided up to the time of his death. As is almost universally the case with the old settler of Shelby county, Mr. Brown was a good, quiet citizen, a kind and obliging neighbor and an honest, honorable, Christian gentleman. He had been a consistent and exemplary member of the Methodist church for more than fifty years and died in that Christian faith which "makes dying beds soft as downy pillows are." He leaves three sons and one daughter, all married, to mourn his departure from earth. He also leaves behind a brother, John Brown of Ash Grove township, three years his senior, who is, perhaps, the oldest man in Shelby county, being about 85 years old. 23 Mar 1876 - Shelby County Independent
