Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Aug. 6, 1983, Saturday, p. 10-A:

SHREVEPORT – Graveside services for Dr. George Melvin Stamper, of Shreveport, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Stamper, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday August 6 at Forest Park Cemetery. The Rev. Stanford Parnell will officiate. Plans are under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home.

Dr. Stamper, born July 4, 1894 in Decatur, Miss., died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 1983, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He moved to Shreveport in 1920, practiced dentistry and oral surgery from 1920 until his retirement, and was a member of the American Society of Oral Surgeons and the Shreveport Dental Society. Dr. Stamper was a World War I veteran and was a member of the 40 & 8 Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport.

He is survived by his wife, Sudie Turner Stamper of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Irene Stamper Barfoot of Philadelphia, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Stamper Tucker, Mrs. Dorothy Stamper Wilson and Mrs. Jeanne Stamper Moore, all of Shreveport; three grandsons, Dr. F. A. Moore, III of Baton Rouge, La., George Stamper Moore of New Orleans, La. and Michael Stamper Wilson of Dallas, Texas; four granddaughters, Mrs. Susie Tucker Overdyke, Mrs. Carol Tucker Overdyke, of Shreveport, Mrs. Catherine Tucker Walvoord of Beaumont, Texas and Mrs. Nancy Tucker Rudd of Dallas, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Lyman Richardson, Dr. F. A. Moore, III, George Stamper Moore, Michael Stamper Wilson, Dr. William Lloyd Overdyke, William Garrett Walvoord, Jere C. Overdyke, Jr. and William Lee Rudd, III.

Memorials may be made to charity of donor's choice.
