Asa Ballou during the Revolutionary War served in the Rhode Island Militia as a Private, Sergeant, First Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander and Captain during the years of 1776, 1777, 1780 and 1781 in the Rhode Island Militia. After the Revolutionary War he continued to serve in the Rhode Island Militia as a Lieutenant and Captain in the Second Company of the Fourth Regiment of Gloucester County Rhode Island Militia in 1792, 1793, 1794, 1795, 1796 and 1797. The D.A.R. has accepted his military service for admittance during the Revolutionary War. Reference: "DAR PATRIOT INDEX" NSDAR 1967, page 33.
