Clarence Arthur Byington, 89, of Lakeview died at his home Tuesday 30 May 1995. Clarence was the 7th out of 10 children born to James Henry and Sarah Mirah Byington in Dempsey, Idaho, near Lava Hot Springs, 3 Dec 1905.

As a youth he learned several trades including barbering, plumbing, tailoring, and various other trades.

He was married to Sidney E. Kelton 3 Dec 1926. She proceeded him in death 27 Feb 1975. The couple lived in Susanville where 2 of their 3 daughters were born. They moved to Wilder, Idaho, in 1934 where he worked for several ranchers and farmers raising cattle for beef. A third daughter was born in Caldwell in 1939. He was deferred from the Armed Forces during WWII, because of his contribution to the war effort involving the raising of cattle, and the fact that he guarded POW's while they worked on the farms in the Wilder area. While in Idaho he was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

In 1947 CA and Sid gave up farming and moved with their daughter Karen to Lakeview, where he was employed by the White Pines Lumber Co., which eventually became Lakeview Lumber Products. He was employed there for 20 years and spent 17 of those years as foreman. Following his retirement from the lumber business he was employed by Coast to Coast for 9 years.

CA and Sid were very actively involved in hunting, fishing, and bowling. They bowled from the time the lanes opened. CA was bowler of the year during the 1975-76 season. CA even helped to operate the alleys during a change of management. CA continued to bowl until the spring of 1995 when his health failed and his bowling career came to a close. One of the last nights he bowled he bowled a 157 and that particular nite he really didn't feel like bowling.

One of CA and Sid's favorite pastimes was playing various card games with family and friends. He knew almost everyone in Lakeview and was liked by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Donna R. Gilchrist and Karen Walters of Las Vegas, Clarice Tetz of Corvallis; 7 grandchildren, Kristy Eachus and Fred Walters of Las Vegas, Teri Tetz-Hall of Ojai, CA, Susan Tetz of Portland, Beverlyl Gerlitz and Steven Tetz of Corvallis, Jeffrey Tetz of Salt Lake; 4 great grandchildren, Amalyia Hall of Corvallis, Ciera Hall of Ojai, Terrence Jeffrey Tetz of Salt Lake City, and Jessica Gerlite of Corvallis; 2 brothers, Archie Byington of Homedale, Idaho, and Ardell Byington of Bountiful, Utah.

Funeral services held Monday 5 Jun 1995 at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Vault interment will follow at the Sunset Cemetery.
