Ohlendorf, William 1856-1919

WAS AN OLD RESIDENT. William Ohlendorf Passes Away Tuesday Morning at Home In Remsen. Victim of Cancer.

William Ohlendorf, another well known and respected citizen of Remsen, died at his home in Remsen Tuesday morning at the age of sixty-one years, and eleven months. His death was due to cancer of the stomach, with which he suffered for about a year. The deceased is survived by his widow, a son a daughter and two brothers. The funeral will be held tomorrow.

William Ohlendorf was born on April 13, 1856, at Guttenburg, Clayton County, Iowa, the fourth child of Henry and Wilhelmina Ohlendorf. On February 16, 1882, he was married Miss Anna Maria Wehrkamp, at Ceres, Iowa, and the couple went to framing near that place. They lived there for a number of years and in 1901 came to Cherokee county, settling on a farm in Amherst township. They farmed successfully there for five years, and in 1906 retired, moving to Remsen where they have lived ever since. To their union two children were born. They are Herman, who farms near here, and Ida, now Mrs. Herman Schorg, also of Remsen. Besides the children and the sorrowing widow, the deceased is survived by two brothers, Fred and John Ohlendorf, both of Remsen.

Mr. Ohlendorf began to fail in health last April and went down gradually altho he was able to be up until six days prior to his death. He suffered very little and passed away peacefully and quietly at 10:55 Tuesday morning. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, and a member during his residence here, of Christ church. He was a staunch supporter of all church activities and a regular attendant at services. Mr. Ohlendorf was a quiet, good hearted man, always willing to give assistance to others, and was highly respected in his social circles. His friends in turn did much to lessen his suffering and brighten his days during his long illness, and he will be missed by all.

The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. Services will be conducted by Rev. J. P. Guenther of Christ church at 2 o'clock at the home and at 2:15 at the church. Interment will be in the Remsen cemetery.

The pall bearers are Henry Koch, Karl Dose, Wm. Long, Louis Schmitz, Henry Falke and Peter Erichsen.
