WALLA WALLA — Jack Cable, 85, of Milton-Freewater died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. At his request, no public services will be held.

Mr. Cable was born Oct. 12, 1924, on the family ranch three miles from Weston to William Peter and Janet Raye (Cooper) Cable, the youngest of five children. He attended Weston schools and graduated in 1942. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army, serving his country during World War II. He served in the Central European Campaign and received the European and African Middle Eastern Service medals, Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Sharp Shooter high rifle medal during his time in the service. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Marion Hyatt on Weston Mountain in 1946, and the couple had two children, Steve and Jackie. They later divorced. He married Iva Jane Wallace West in 1965; she died in 1969. In 1970 he married Karen (Knutson) Anderson in Walla Walla.

He farmed, drove school bus and worked for Lamb-Weston, Jones Normel and Smith Frozen Foods. He retired in 1996 as a plant superintendent after 53 years in the food processing business.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Karen Cable of Milton-Freewater; son Steve Cable of Roseburg; daughter Jackie Weese of Yakima, Wash.; stepdaughter Nancy Schober of Bowman, N.D.; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Jean Curry and Euince Benzel; and brothers Vern and Dan Cable.
