Arthur Gillham Rites to be Held Monday Afternoon
Arthur G. Gillham, 70, a retired Cornhusker Ordinance plant employee died late yesterday afternoon at a local hospital. He had been in failing health the past three years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home by Dr. James S. Chubb, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery.
Mr. Gillham was born Mar. 8, 1880 at Silver Creek, to Mr. and Mrs. William Gillham and grew to manhood in Polk Co. On Nov. 18, 1903, he and Miss Eva Ross were married at St. Paul and they began their home on a farm near Belgrade.
They moved to Grand Island in 1912 and in the past 23 years have resided at 521 West Fourth.
Mr. Gillham worked as a power plant operator for the Central Power Company and the American Crystal Sugar Company. He was in the engineering department at the Cornhusker Ordinance plant when he retired three years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, Harold of Grand Island, Loyd of North Hollywood, CA, Verdon of Los Angeles, CA, Kenneth, of El Monte, CA and Keith, of Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreve Port, LA, two daughters, Mrs Esther Beach and Mrs Ethel Steuben, both of Grand Island, and one brother, George W. Gillham, Fort Lupton, CO and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mrs Pearlie Alexander, and a brother Floyd Gillham.
Friends may call at the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home between 7 and 9 o'cock Sunday evening.
