Haygood was a retired farmer and member of the Bapiist Church. He lived in Jean since 1909.
He moved to Texas at the age of eight, moving to Bowie, then to Young County. He and his wife moved to their home north of Jean in 1925. The couple married on 9 December 1914 at his wife's parents home in the Hunt community, southeast of Olney.
Survivors include three daughters Elaine Cooper and Vela Farmer, both of Jean, and Modena Huffman of Alvin; one son, W. J. Haygood of Jean; one sister, Mrs. Clyde Cummings of Pampa; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
