Janet Marshall married Alva Grapes on March 2, 1904 in Wisconsin.

Janet Margaret Grapes, daughter of David and Isabelle Marshall, was born March 29, 1877 in Caledonia Township in Columbia County, Wisconsin. There she grew to young womanhood and on March 2, 1904, was united in marriage to Alva B. Grapes. To this union were born two sons, David Harold and William Russell, both of Knapp.
Janet and Alva lived on a farm in Lismore Township, Minnesota, the first year, then moved to the old Grapes homestead also in Minnesota, where they lived for 8 years. The year of 1912 they bought a farm north of Knapp where they resided until 1945. In that year they moved to their home "BIDE A WEE", in Knapp.
Grandma Grapes, as she was affectionately known, was very active in many organizations throughout her lifetime. She was one of the orginators of the Country Club Homemakers in 1914, and served within that group as long as she was able, was treasurer of the Dunn County W.C.T.U. for many years, and also served as president of the local W.C.T.U. She served on the Maple Ridge School Board and was also an active member of W.S.C.S.
She was a Presbyterian, but after coming to Dunn County she joined the Methodist Church in Knapp. Grandma has taught Sunday School to practically every youth in the community.
Janet Marshall Grapes passed away March 18, 1960, in Knapp. She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and one grandson.
She is survived by 2 sons, 1 grandson, 5 granddaughters, 7 great grandchildren and other relatives and host of friends.
Mrs. Clayton Frieberg was soloist, accompanied by Ellen Grapes.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 22, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Knapp, the Rev. Oscar Nichols officiating. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery east of Knapp. Pallbearers were Glen Owens, LaMonte Jacobs, Lawrence Thatcher, William Tainter, Raymond Halle and Lawrence Kuhn.
