Howard "Sonny" Baker, age 67 of Alanson, died December 12, 2008 at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital.
Sonny was born on October 5, 1941 at the Little Traverse Hospital in Petoskey, the son of Howard and Wanda (Swadling) Baker and was raised in Harbor Springs.
On May 27, 1961, Sonny married Janice Hatch in Petoskey and she survives.
Sonny worked as a mechanic for various places including the City of Petoskey. Sonny and Janice moved to Colorado, where Sonny owned and operated his own towing company. In 1989, Sonny and Janice moved back to the Petoskey area and Sonny went to work for his brother at Sid Baker Masonry, where he has worked since.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and enjoyed car racing, snowmobiling, country music, and was a great musician, and a magnificent guitar man.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice; a daughter, Lisa (Roger) Gregory; a son, Jim (Allison) Baker; 3 grandchildren, Thomas Gregory, Amanda Gregory, and Dillon Baker; 7 siblings, Rhoda (Glen) Leavitt, Holly (Ray) Hatfield, Sidney (Bev) Baker, Margaret (Darcy) Geary, Mary (Phil) Koeber, Ross (Tudy) Baker, and Belinda (Ray) Wiggs;
He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Baker; and by 3 sisters, Sally Allen, Janet Hite, and Jean Temple.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 17th at the Stutsmanville Chapel with Pastor Ed Warner officiating. Burial was in the Alanson Littlefield Twp. Cemetery in the spring.
