Gye is the adopted son of Truman I. Bennett and Daisy L. Brown. Truman was born in June 1866 in New York. Daisy was born in October 1873 in Nebraska. They were married about 1894.

He is a brother to Verna and Ruby.

He married Dorothy Pearl Mynatt 21 September 1928 in Canyon county, Idaho, and were divorced 13 July 1931.

Their child is William Truman.

On 30 July 1938, Gye married Dorotha Mae Prather. They came to Springfield, Lane, Oregon about 1939 and then to Roseburg about 1947.

Their children are Truman Ira, Gladys Jean and Linda Mae.

He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Eagles Lodge of Eugene, and was president of the Oregon Truckers Association of Medford.

His death was caused by a heart attack.
