A service was today at the 7th and Beech Church of Christ for Julia Purkins, 84, Durant, who died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. Bro. John Curtis and Bro. Van Newton officiated.

She was born Tuesday, May 11, 1920, in Utica to John Rassie Hickman and Mary Julia Taylor. She married Henry Cornelison Dec. 2, 1946, in Durant. She married Buddy Purkins Jan. 13, 1973, in Durant.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan County and graduated from Blue High School in 1938. She was a homemaker who loved her family, gardening and quilting. She was a member of the 7th and Beech Church of Christ and a member of the Experienced Americans Bible Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband April 7, 1969; second husband April 23, 1984; brothers Leo, Floyd, Lloyd, Taylor, Garland and Dan Hickman; sisters Alice Belle Southern, Annie McGowan and Henritta Alene Moore.

She is survived by sons Larry Cornelison and Harold Cornelison and wife Joy, all of Durant; daughters Dianne Cornelison and Carol Coats and husband James, all of Durant; grandsons Paul Jones and wife Brandee, Pottsboro, Texas, Devin Coats and wife Mina, Durant; granddaughters Carissa Coats, Tulsa, Jaclyn Cornelison, Durant, Hali Cornelison, Durant; great-grandsons Kailer Jones and Keeden Jones, both from Pottsboro; sister Cleo Boler, Norman, and brother Jim Hickman, Snyder.

Burial was at Philadelphia Cemetery with Dale Goad, James Latham, Delbert Craddock, Billy Albright, Henry Brigman and Gene Black as pallbearers.
