Weaverville - Rosa Penland McDaris, 93, of 78 Weaver Blvd., died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006.
Mrs. McDaris was born Dec. 31, 1912, in Union County, S.C., and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She retired from Hadley Corporation of Weaverville and worked for Taylor Instruments for a while after her retirement. Rosa was an avid gardener and a member of Reems Creek/Beech Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of the late Alfred H. and Mollie Porche Penland and widow of the late Arthur W. McDaris, who died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son, Roger McDaris; sisters, Euna Ballard and Kathleen Ballard; brothers, Claude, Emory and Gus Penland; and grandson, Little Michael McDaris.
Surviving are her daughters, Jean McDaris Fitchett and husband, Tucker, of Georgetown, Texas, Wilma McDaris of Weaverville, and Marilyn McDaris and husband, Frank Sorrells, of Candler; two sons, Donald McDaris and wife, Grace, of Greer, S.C., and Michael McDaris and wife, Diana, of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Lyda Roberts McDaris of Weaverville; sister, Margie Hendricks of Virginia Beach, Va.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
