First Soldier Boy of South Bountiful
Laid to Rest

Carl Brunson, age 23, son of Hyrum and Clarrisa Howard Brunson, died Friday in the naval hospital at Mare Island, Calif., of pneumonia, following erysipelas, after two week illness. His parents had been to California to see their son, but returned home when the doctor pronounced the young soldier out of danger. They had scarcely arrived home when they received the sad message announcing his death.
The body was expressed home for interment in the Bountiful cemetery.
Open air services were held at the home of the deceased in South Bountiful, Wednesday afternoon, which were conducted by Bishop S C Howard. Choir sang, Though Deepening Trial Throng Your Way, Press On, etc. Prayer was offered by Andrew Gwynn. My Country 'Tis of Thee," was sing by the girls' chorus. Daniel Dickens spoke words of comfort to the family; Bishop Jed Stringham of the Bountiful Second ward referred to the resurrection, said it was noble to die in our country's service. ...
The gathering was very large, most all joining in the funeral cortege to the cemetery, where the body was laid to rest amid a profusion of flowers and Patriarch Joseph Bennett offered the dedicatory prayer.
