They moved to Jasper County, Illinois around 1852, where land records show he purchased 160 acres of land for farming on November 14, 1851. The remaining four children were born here. They are: James William Ridlen, Amanda Jane Ridlen, Eliza Ann Ridlen, and John Franklin Ridlen.
He was a pioneer, a favorably known and well-respected citizen and farmer. The Ridlen families constituted some of the most influential citizens in the Jasper County, Illinois area.
