When she was sixteen years of age, her mother's death left upon her the major part of the responsibility of caring for a large family. On October 10, 1897, she married Bert R. Mathews and they moved to Marshall in 1899 where they have since resided. She was a member of Marshall Camp R.N. of A. for nearly fifteen years.
She is survived by her husband, Bert; her daughter, Lucille; two sons, Loral of Champaign and Robert of Terre Haute; her father Albert Shonk of Brocton; three sisters, Mrs. Jake Clouse of this city, Mrs. Henry Skates on Onargo, and Mrs. Nelson Cox, of Urbana; three brothers, Wilfred Shonk, of Arcola, Lyman Shonk of Brocton, and Orville Shonk of Marion, Ohio and one granddaughter, Patty Jo, daughter of her son Robert.
Funeral services were held at the residence at 12 o'clock Sunday with Rev. Laren Spear officiating. Burial was in the Marshall Cemetery.
