AN OLD LADY DEAD----
Sunday Morning at ten o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Johnson, occurred the death of Mrs. Martha Gardner. She had spent most of her time the past year with her son, Charlie Gardner, near Godfrey, but had been at Mrs. Johnson's several weeks before her death.
The remains were interred beside her husband, William Gardner, at Harmony church, in Putnam county, Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. R. B. Bolton. The pall bearers were her sons and Messrs. W. C. Reagan and J. B. Harris.
The deceased was born in Jones county, GA. Feb. 9, 1840. She had an only sister, Miss Mary Reese, who died while young. Mrs. Evie Ingram, mother of Mrs. John Ingram, was her half sister. She also had four half brothers. She was the last member of her family. Her husband William Gardner, died over thirty years ago, and a son, Joe, died a year or two ago.
She is survived by five daughters and four sons: Mrs. W. B. Wallis, of Putnam county, Mrs. W. B. Johnson, of Madison, Mrs. R. W. Curtis of Burlington, N. C. and Emmett Gardner, of Atlanta. Charlie Gardner, of Godfrey, Mrs. W. H. Zachry, of Buckhead, John Gardner of Buckhead, Mrs. Genie Freeman, of Atlanta, and Ben Gardner of Columbia, SC.
She was a member of the Baptist Church for over fifty years and was a pious, consecrated Christian woman of the old regime.
