Funeral services will be at 9:30 tomorrow in St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Church in Eagle Center for William Joseph Schmitz, 71, who died about 1 a.m. yesterday at his home in Eagle Center of a heart attack.

The Rev. John Thornton, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the family home at noon today from the Oppold Funeral Home. The parish rosary will be recited at the family home at 8 p.m. this evening.

He was born on November 24, 1888*, in Troy Grove, Ill., the son of Wilmar and Mary Klein Schmitz. he moved to Eagle Center in 1909, where he married Mary Schmitz on Feb. 14, 1912. The couple farmed near Eagle Center from 1936 until he retired.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edmund of Gladbrook, Adrian of 1225 Wallgate Ave., and James of 734 Collene Ave., Evansdale; four daughters: Mrs. Theodore Kleinendorst, Owatonna, Minn.; Mrs. Paul Oberheu, Sumner; Mrs. Ralph Reuter, Marshalltown, and Mrs. Charles Kinney, 1147 Lincoln St.; 20 grandchildren, two brothers, Joseph of Gilbertville and John of Butterfield, Minn.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, two sons and a daughter.
