Daughter of William & Mary Catherine Schmitz
Elizabeth Hennrieta Kinney, 82, of Waterloo, died Friday, Jan. 15 at her home of cancer.
She was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Lourdes, daughter of William and Mary Catherine Schmitz. She married Charles Kinney Jr. on June 23, 1947, in Eagle Center.
Mrs. Kinney graduated from St. Mary's of Mount Carmel High School in 1945.
She was employed in the office of Rath Packing Company, Dr. J. L. Kestels and J. C. Penney. In 1969 she graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology with a degree of a LPN. She was a nurse at St. Francis Hospital from 1969 to 1987.
She was appointed to the Iowa State Board of Nursing from 1977 to 1987. She served on the National Council of the State Board of Nursing from 1985 to 1986. She was an active member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a dedicated volunteer.
Survived by her husband; three daughters, Charla Kinney and Sue (Lou) Ball, both of Waterloo, and Julie (Larry) Girsch of Gilbertville; two sons, Robert (Sherry) of Cabot, Ark., and Raphael of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Toby) Hayek, Clint McVay, Michael Kinney, Chris (Shae) Kinney, Sheri Elizabeth Kinney, Dan Ball, Christy Ball, Ryan (Emily) Ball, Austin Kinney, Hanna Kinney, Joe Girsch and Mike Girsch; four great-grandchildren, Brady, Caden and Cooper Hayek, Brooklyn Yancey and one due in March; a sister, Beatrice Kleinendorst of Fairbank; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Schmitz Halverson, Evaan Beck Schmitz and Marian Schmitz; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Gerald, Edmund (Darlene), Raphael, Adrian (Marylou) and James Schmitz; and three sisters, Evarista (Paul) Oberheu, Magdalene (Ralph) Reuter and Evelyn Schmitz.
