The wife (Elizabeth) and 2 children (Mary & Oliver) that died within a few days of each other? I feel they are the ones buried in a field, alongside the old hard road, with a stone in the small plot. I've always been told there were children buried there.
Chester was greatly involved in the underground railroad movement as Mendon, IL. was the 1st major stop after Quincy, located on the Mississippi River. The route continues north and east to Detroit and into Canada and true freedom for the fleeing slaves.
