Raymond K. Sturmer, 79, of Wallingford, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at the Masonic Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Gwendolyne Eastman Sturmer.

He was born in Meriden, October 9, 1927, a son of the late John H. Sturmer and Elsie Bragg Sturmer Murphy, and attended St. Rose School, Meriden High School, and New Haven College and School of Executive Development which is part of Rensselaer Hartford Graduate Center Inc. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps., as a Senior Control Tower Operator. He had been employed by H.L. Judd Co. until going into a partnership with his father-in-law, forming Sturmer-Eastman Truck Body Builders and Welders. He then worked for Stanley Judd Co., and later became the Plant Manager and Vice President of Newell Drapery until the plant closed. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus – Pinta Council #5, and the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Manufacturer's Association, and the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce. Raymond was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Jessika Barton; his son and daughter-in-law Eric Sturmer and his wife Diane of Wallingford, and their children, Eric Tyler, Kassandra, Brianna, Joshua, Caleb and Nathaniel; his sister, Marion (Mrs. Raymond) Schonn of Wallingford; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Sturmer of Meriden; his sister-in-law, Theresa (Mrs. John) Sturmer of Wolcott; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Robin Barton; his grandson, Jeffrey Barton; and his brother, John E. Sturmer.

His family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staffs of the Masonic Healthcare Center and the MidState Medical Center,

His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St. in the Yalesville section of Wallingford. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from The Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden.
