"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 27, No 20, p 79, May 11, 1871.

In Hopkinton, April 25th, 1871, at the residence of Moses B. Lewis [her brother] Mrs. Hannah Barber, widow of the late Dea. Weeden Barber, of Hopkinton, aged 89 years. The subject of this notice embraced religion and united with the Six Principle Baptist Church in Richmond, in the year 1802, at the age of 20 years, and continued a worth member till her death, maintaining, in conjunction with her companion, a true devotion to the church, and zeal for the cause of Christ, to the close of life. Their sympathies were ever enlisted to promote the prosperity of Zion. Their home was ever the welcome resort of all Christians, and especially the ministers of the gospel; and the hospitality of their board freely tendered; and in those years when houses of public worship were few and far between, their doors were opened, especially in times of revival, constantly, for the preaching of the gospel and prayer and conference. Great was her anxiety for the spiritual welfare of her children. She knew well the throes of spiritual childbirth, and the consequent joy when her loved ones were born into the Kingdom. When laid aside from active life by the infirmities of age, the society of the devout was her delight. And when the final summons came, calm and resigned, she expressed her desire to depart and be with God.
