The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2 pm in Bethany United Methodist Church of James Island. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Tuesday between 5 and 7 pm.
Mrs. Evans was born October 23, 1922, in Marion County, South Carolina, the daughter of Henry Bennett Avant and Laura Daisy Coleman Avant.
She was a graduate of Winthrop College, Class of 1943 and graduate study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, DAR, Rebecca Motte Society, French Huguenot Society of Charleston, Garden Club of Riverland Terrance and the Friends of the Charleston County Public Library.
Mrs. Evans retired as the Librarian at Middleton High School. She was an avid reader, worked crossword puzzles and played bridge.
She is survived by her daughter: Nancy Evans Allegood of Charleston, SC; daughter-in law: Kathleen P. Evans of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren: Constance E. Allegood, William T. Allegood, Bennett G. Allegood, Samuel G. Allegood, Katherine A. Evans and Anna Grayson Evans; and one great grandson: Christopher T Mitchell She is predeceased by a son M. Grayson Evans, Jr. M.D. and a daughter, Irma Elysa Evans, R.N.
