Margaret Abanathy, nee Lampkin, 87, Washington, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Washington. May she rest in God's loving arms. Margaret was born March 23, 1928, in Vichy, the daughter of Lloyd and wife Isabelle, nee Seig Lampkin. Margaret grew up in Gasconade. She was a member of First Christian Church in Washington. Margaret spent her career as a nurse, a profession she loved, first at St. Francis Hospital, which later became St. John's Mercy Hospital. Margaret loved the St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid fan. She was united in marriage to Edward Hooper, and they were blessed with four children. After his passing, she was united in marriage to John Abanathy and gained three step-daughters. Margaret is survived by two daughters, Dorliss Sang and husband Robert, Luebbering, and Pam Schmelz and husband Mike, Union; two sons, Steve Hooper and wife Vicki, Union, and Terry Hooper and wife Marianne, Charlotte, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Johnnie LaValle and husband Guy, Union, and Carla Chitty and husband Mike, Overland Park, Kan.; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alvina Niederhelm, Gasconade; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Edward Hooper and John Abanathy; one stepdaughter, Linda Beckman; and her parents. A funeral service was held Friday, Feb. 26, at noon at Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington, with the Rev. Dave Armstrong officiating. Burial followed in Presbyterian Cemetery, Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Christian Church of Washington. The Abernathy family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington. Published in The Missourian on Mar. 2, 2016.
