Charley never married and never had any children. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the 809th Army Corps of Engineers in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, England, and France.
He grew up around the Commerce, Texas area and remained there until his death.
He had five brothers & sisters:

Sadie Louise Yates Keenum(1912 - 2005)
William Allen (Willie) Yates (1913 - 1985)
Walter Lee (W. L.) Yates (1916 - 2007)
Cuba Jeane (Jean) Yates (1921 - 1984)
Charley is buried next to his mother, Bessie Elsa Mae Vaughan Yates in Rosemound Cemetery - Commerce, Texas. Their headstone is two-sided. On the other side of the stone are buried Walter Lee Yates and William Allen Yates, his brothers.
