John was born to Lt. Melatiah Bourne and Desire Chipman in Sandwich, in 1698.

At the age of 23, John married Mercy Hinckley on Mar. 16, 1721 in Barnstable. It is believed that they started their family in the town of Sandwich and sometime after 1750, resided in Falmouth. Massachusetts.

Their children are:

1. Joseph (1725-1799), m. Hannah Hathaway in 1753.

2. Sarah (1725-1777), m. Lemuel Mendall in 1747.

3. John (1729-1794), m. Persis Davis in 1751.

4. Mercy (1731-1737).

5. Elizabeth (1733-1818), m1. Jonathan Swift in 1753; m2. Thomas Tabor in 1766.

6. David (1735-1790), m. Mary Hathaway in 1764.

7. Mercy (1738-1738).

8. Thomas (1740-1761).

9. Isaac (1746-1750).
