Mrs. Brown
Jerome- Mrs. Catherine Smith Brown,99, died Friday Noon at St. Benedict's nursing home of a brief illness.
She was born Nov 5, 1869, in Groff Germany and was Married to Fred Smith in 1888, in Groff. They came to the United States in 1889; and settled in Garden City Kansas. In 1920 they moved to Idaho and farmed in the Falls City area for many years.
Mr. Smith died in 1937 after which she moved into Jerome. In 1942 she was married to Otto Brown and he died in 1945. Mrs. Brown had served as a mid-wife in the area and delivered many babies in her early years in the area.
She belonged to the Catholic Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Charles (Ethel) Lavens, Marathon, N.Y.; Mrs. Ray (Geri} Coakley, Billingsly, Mont.; Mrs. Russell (Irene) Simpson, Mrs. Maxine Davis, and Mrs. Emily Atwood all Jerome, Mrs. Bud (Vera) Clark, Vancouver, Wash., and two sons Leon Smith, Port Angeles, Wash. and Peter Smith, Jerome; 24 Grandchildren, 47 Great-Grandchildren and 18 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
She was Preceded in death by one son, John.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hove funeral chapel. Requiem Mass will be Celebrated at 10 A.M. Monday in St. Jerome's Catholic Church by Reverend Bernard McBride, Celebrant. Final rites will be held in the Jerome Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Sunday and Monday until time of service.

Hi Christine, thank you for adding Catherine's obit.  It was most helpful in finding all nine of her children which are now in the process of being linked to her and her 1st-husband Fred Schmidt which was Americanized to Smith.  

Can you please change her birth place to Russia.  Catherine was born in Graf, Russia which was one of the German Colonies in Russia along the Volga River. -- Thanks, Dave
