LONGMEADOW Louis A. Silverman, 87, of 770 Converse St. and formerly of Springfield, died Saturday at home. He owned the former Skoler Paint & Wallpaper, retiring in the 1970s. Previously, he owned Sun Window Cleaning from 1947 until 1965. Born and raised in Holyoke, he lived in Springfield for more than 50 years, before moving here last year. He was a former member of the Brigham Lodge of Masons, Scottish Rite Bodies, Melha Temple Shrine and the Independent City of Homes Association. He leaves his wife, the former Diane B. Cagan; two sons, Herbert of Sharon and Springfield firefighter Steven Silpe; three sisters, Pearl Kimball of Phoenix, Ariz., Ann Weiss of Lake Worth, Fla., and Sylvia Thaw of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His first wife, the former Rosalind Brown, died in 1961. The funeral will be Monday afternoon at Harold R. Ascher & Son Memorial Chapel, with burial in the City of Homes Cemetery , Springfield. Memorial observance will be at the home of Robin Karolinski, 57 Merriweather Drive, Longmeadow, Monday through Wednesday with evening services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
