Born in Lancaster County, a son of the late Daniel M. and Magdalena Sensenig Stauffer, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Blainsport Mennonite Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent for more than 40 years.
His first wife, the former Ellen Witmer, died in 1918.
Surviving are his second wife, Annie Glover Stauffer; a son, A. W. Stauffer, Terre Hill; three daughters, Susanna, wife of Walter R. Smith, Clearwater, Fla.; Sarah, wife of Ivan S. Mellinger, Ephrata R3; and Mary Ann, wife of Russell Singer, New Holland, and 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are these brothers and sisters: Eli Stauffer, Jacob Stauffer, Katie, wife of Raymond Martin, all of Ephrata R3; Isaac Stauffer, New Holland R2 and Sarah, wife of Wilson Martin, New Holland R1.
