Born August 17, 1911 in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the son of Laura Partington Lund and Emil Hans Lund.
He married Wanda Warren on June 18, 1940, and they became the parents of four sons and three daughters. He worked as a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force at Hill Air Force Base, Utah for about 32 years. He served as an equipment specialist for most of his career and traveled extensively for the government in the United States and abroad.
During his younger years, he organized and directed the Don Lund Orchestra, with 14 musicians. The band traveled throughout Utah and Idaho in an old touring car, playing for dances. Gifted with a beautiful voice, he often sang solos in various churches.
A creative thinker, he devised solutions for many problems at work and at home, and seemed able to fix anything that was broken. His favorite pastime during the winter season was playing billiards with other men at the Valle del Oro RV Resort where he and his wife spent part of each year.
He was member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had accepted many church callings earlier in life. Private memorial services were held in Mesa. He will be buried in Clearfield, Utah.
