W.C. "Monkey" Welch

Long-time Carroll County politician and four-term supervisor W.C. "Monkey" Welch died Monday, June 16, 1986, at his residence near Vaiden after a lengthy illness.

The Carroll County native was a retired cattleman and supervisor who served for terms on the Carroll County Board of Supervisors from January 1956 until January 1972.

Memorial services were conducted from Vaiden Methodist Church Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Howard Tucker, assisted by the Rev. B.C. Nunn and the Rev. Don Sampley, preached services. Burial was in Vaiden Cemetery.

Welch is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Sullivan of Bruce, Mrs. Janie Tollison of Starkville and Mrs. Mary Sampley of Vaiden, six sons, Jimmy Don Welch, Ray Welch, Robert Welch and Wallace Welch, all of Vaiden, and Wayne Welch and Cecil Welch, both of Jackson, two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Self and Mrs. Fannie Gant, both of Vaiden, a brother, Walter Welch of Vaiden, 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wallace Welch, Cecil Welch, Robert Welch, Jimmy Don Welch, Ray Welch and Wayne Welch. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Sullivan, Richard Tollison and the Rev. Don Sampley. Oliver Funeral Home handled arrangements.
