Father of City Councilman Was 56 and Had Lived Here 40 Years - Funeral Tomorrow


S. C. French, well-known Carthage resident, a grocer here 23 years, died at 8:15 o'clock this morning at his home, 612 South McGregor Street, following a nine days' illness.

Death was due to high blood pressure and a complication of ailments.

Mr. French was 56 years old yesterday. He had been a resident of Carthage approximately 40 years and was a native Missourian having been born at Rolla April 14, 1870. In his youthful days he learned the trade of stone cutter and followed that profession here until he launched into the grocery business. He engaged in this business at several locations, at times being interested in more than one store. A few weeks ago he and his son, W. M. French, formed the Ozark Motor Company and opened that business on West Fourth Street.

Mr. French was married here May 13, 1888, to Miss Fannie Reno of this city.

The wife survives also several children.
