Walter August Schmidt, 43, born Sheboygan, Wis., son of Herman & Anna (Klatt) Schmidt, and Esther Mae Armolt, maiden name Eichelberger, 36, daughter of Frederick Hiram & Clara Jane (Gregor) Eichelberger, were married July 2, 1952 at Hampton, Virginia. Esther M. Schmidt, 90, of 524 Bernheisel Bridge Road, Carlisle, died Friday, February 9, 2007 in the Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle.

Born April 24, 1916 in Newville, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Clara Jane Greegor Eichelberger. She was the widow of Walter Schmidt.

Mrs. Schmidt was retired from the former Carlisle Shoe Co.

Survivors include a daughter: Janey (and her husband, Harry) Thoman of Carlisle; a sister: Doris (and her husband, John) Johnson of Tennessee; four grandchildren: Craig (and his wife, Claudia) Comittino ; Shelley Comittino (and her husband, Jim Brakewell); Brett (and his wife, Chastity) Comittino , and Adam (and his wife, Jennifer) Thoman; 13 great grandchildren; and two nieces: Ruth Cox of Tennessee and Sandy (and her husband, Robert) Lehman of Carlisle.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, with the Rev. Kathleen G. Coleman officiating. A viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Ronan Funeral Home, 255 York Road, Carlisle.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Drive, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
