CARLISLE SOLDIER KILLED IN CRASH TRAINING PLANE, WIFE INFORMED
Jan. 31 -- Sgt. Ernest G. Eichelberger, 25, North and Bedford streets, a rear gunner on a B-17 bomber, was killed in an airplane crash during a training flight at Peterson Field, Colorado Springs, Colo., his wife was informed.
The message received by his wife gave no details. The accident occurred Saturday night.
He is survived by his widow, Florence Bittinger Eichelberger; father, Hiram Eichelberger, Pontiac, Mich., mother, Mrs. Clara Eichelberger; brothers and sisters, Melvin, Camp Maxey, Texas; Glenn, Chole, Dorothy, at home, Mrs. Walter Derr, Carlisle; Mrs. Leroy Arnolt, Carlisle, R.D.4.
Sergeant Eichelberger entered the service in April 1943.
Services will be held at the J.R. Shulenberger Funeral Home, Carlisle, with burial in Westminster Cemetery. Definite arrangements for the funeral have been delayed, pending word as to when the body will arrive here.
