Known to all as "Gene". She was the oldest child born to Jesse and Ethel Keener Green in East Ellijay, Gilmer Co., Georgia.

As the oldest, her job was to help Ethel as the other kids were born and raised. To the kids she was the sister, the little mother, and the leader. Her favorite story was in 1930 when Papa finally got a car. She had to try driving but unfortunately she knocked the front porch off their house.
She never tried to drive again..

By 1934 the family had moved to Dalton and She made many friends and Des became a favorite. Their marriage in 1934
was on the day after Christmas.

Mom was exceptionally bright and as we three kids came along, she insisted that we learn all we could and teach her what we learned. All of us graduated with top honors and scholarships.

Over the years they moved as work indicated. In 1942 they
were in Jacksonville, Florida. Dad was to leave the shipyard after the war and the family came back to Dalton. With short stays in Bainbridge and Calhoun, Dalton was always home.

She died of Cancer in 1982 after a brief hospital stay and never got to celebrate that 50's anniversary with Des.

Gene was a smart, compassionate, loving woman who helped whenever and however she could. She is missed and someday I will see her again until then she is my guardian angel.
