According to the "Family of Requa," Rev. William Comb Requa was the twin of Nathaniel, the eldest two children of the Elijah Requa family. Son William is the current focus of this memorial.

In 1820 William became the Assistant Superintendent of Union Mission to the Osage Indians, in the former Osage Indian Territory, now Mayes County, OK. Following the closing of that mission and its sister Harmony Mission in southwest Missouri, Rev. Requa relocated his family to near the former Harmony Mission setting at present-day Bates County, MO. During his missionary service he become proficient enough in medicine to later be recognized as a doctor.
