Jesse E. is thought to be the son of the Jesse Casey who was living in Roane County, Tennessee in the early 1800s. Name of Jesse E's mother has not been proven. Jesse E. married Patsy Coe on 10 May 1817 in Roane County, TN. The marriage bond and license were dated 4 April 1817 but the Justice of the Peace who performed the ceremony (James McPherson) listed the date of the ceremony as 10 May 1817. The actual date is unclear. Jesse and Martha were in Newton County, Arkansas by at least 1841. Jesse E. has not been found on the 1840 census. Jesse E. and Martha were the parents of twelve children. Martha died in Newton County, Arkansas in 1846 and about 1848 Jesse E. married Elizabeth Rash McPherson, widow of Reuben McPherson.
Earlier Casey researchers claimed that Jesse E. Casey's grandparents were Aaron Casey and Mary "Polly" Wayne. Extensive research has been done in the East Tennessee area and we have failed to find any trace of an Aaron Casey. There was an Aaron Casey in Spartanburg, South Carolina but I have copies of the estate papers of both he and his wife and there is no mention of a son Jesse. According to census records Jesse E. Casey was born in Georgia. There are early court records (1800) for a Jesse Casey in Franklin County, Georgia and that same court case was later continued in the court records of Roane County, Tennessee. It is probable that this is Jesse Casey father of Jesse E. There are early Georgia Tax records for Jesse Casey but evidently there were several Jesse Caseys in Georgia during that time period.
Earlier researchers also indicated that in the 1830s Jesse E. Casey moved from Tennessee to Missouri and then to Arkansas. I have not found any evidence to confirm this. Jesse E. Casey had a child born in Georgia and one in Alabama so it seems likely he moved from Tennessee to Georgia and then went through Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey has not been found on the 1840 census but there is a Jesse Casey who appears on an 1834 census of Murray County, Georgia. This was a census taken to enumerate the whites who were living among the Cherokees. There were ten members listed in the family of the Jesse Casey who appeared on this census. It is only speculation that this is Jesse E. Casey but since his son Jesse Clinton Casey insisted until the day he died he was born in Georgia in 1834 it is possible that the Jesse Casey listed on this census is Jesse E. Casey. Jesse Clinton Casey's Civil War pension papers and his death certificate list Jersey County, Georgia as his place of birth but there is not now nor has there ever been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is a town Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it was originally called Centerville and was not renamed Jersey until 1883. (From History of Walton County, Georgia sent to me by Jean Grace)
Many have now given Jesse E. Casey the middle name Elax but I have not found any documentation to support that theory. I have not found any record that shows a middle name. The only Bible record I have seen is the birth, death and marriage pages from the Jesse Clinton Casey Bible. Unfortunately his father Jesse E is not listed in that Bible. Jesse Clinton Casey's son Elax Arastus however is listed in the Bible and that is the only place I have seen the name Elax Casey. If there is a record showing Jesse E. as Jesse Elax I have not seen it. Jesse Clinton Casey's death certificate shows a middle for his father but it doesn't make sense. The name begins with an "A" not an "E" . I have been working on this for several years but have not found anything that
confirms or disproves the information on the death certificate.
Casey DNA testing is now ongoing and results so far are interesting but not conclusive. A descendant of Jesse E. Casey was tested and he is a 111 marker match with a descendant of Ambler Casey. It has long been thought that Ambler and Jesse E. were closely related. This test seems to indicate that they were probably brothers. Tests results show that the SC cluster (Jesse E and Ambler are in this cluster) is the most closely related cluster and more than likely most of the oldest proven ancestors of this group are brothers, first cousins, second cousins, etc.. Polly Casey was born ca. 1818 and married John Farmer. No other info has been found on Polly Casey. The only info came from the article in the Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region. The book was published in 1894 and the article indicates Polly was deceased at the time the article was written so she died sometime before that date (1894).
Stephen Casey born about 1821 in Morgan County, TN. He died sometime after July 1896. On that date he applied for a pension based on his Civil War service. He does not appear on the 1900 census so it is assumed he died after the pension application was filed and before the 1900 census. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 13 July 1861 in Company B 14th Regiment Arkansas Volunteers. He served one year as a Corporal and received a disability discharge. Stephen married twice. First to Sarah Wilkins about 1840. They were the parents of eight children. Stephen's second wife was Mary Jane Angel. They married about 1867. Stephen and Mary Jane were the parents of six children.
Temperance Malinda Casey was born 18 May 1822 in Morgan County, TN. She married Thomas Farmer ca 1841, Sometime between 1862 and 1870 they moved to Texas. Thomas Farmer evidently died there sometime between 1870 and 1880 and Temperance is listed on the 1880 census as a widow and head of the household. Her sons John, Jesse and Joseph are living with her. Between 1891 and 1894 Temperance and several of her family members moved to Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory and there she died 19 August 1899. She is buried in the Victory Cemetery in Fittstown, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. Temperance and Thomas Farmer were the parents of sixteen children.
Elijah Simmons born ca 1823 in Morgan Co., TN. He married Nancy Wilkins.ca 1840. No marriage record has been found but Jesse Newton Casey son of Elijah and Nancy submitted a 1911 Civil War Veteran's Questionaire and in it he confirmed not only that his father was Elijah Simmons Casey but also that his mother's maiden name was Wilkins. Supposedly Elijah died in 1894 in Tarrant County, Texas. This information came from a tale related by William Jasper Casey (son of Elijah) in one of the S. C. Turnbo Sketches - Jumping Astride of a Panther and Hitting it in the Head With An AX. This date has not been confirmed by any other source nor is there any information about a place of burial for Elijah. An article on the Caseys in Reminiscent History of the Ozarks (written in 1894) states that Elijah Casey was living in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) at the time the article was written. There is conflicting information here about where Elijah was in 1894. The source for dates of birth, marriage and death of many of Elijah's descendants is a Bible record of James Marion Casey a grandson of Elijah. Elijah Simmons Casey and Nancy Wilkins were the parents of at least eight children.
Elizabeth Casey born 20 March 1825 in Morgan County, TN. She married Zachariah Beckham ca. 1843. Zachariah Beckham was born 1824 in Tennessee. During the Civil War he served in Company K, Colonel Hill's Regiment. He was wounded in action at Pilot Knob, Missouri in October 1864 and was taken prisoner and moved to Alton Prison in Illinois where he died 17 December 1864. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Alton, Illinois. His wife Elizabeth applied for a Widow's pension and several men who gave depositions in support of her claim confirmed that they saw Zachariah Beckham when he was shot and carried from the battlefield at Pilot Knob. Elizabeth Beckham died 4 October 1909 and is buried in Walnut Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. Elizabeth and Zachariah Beckham were the parents of eleven children:

Levi Newton Casey was born 1827 in Morgan County, Tennessee. He married Dedemiah Daniels about 1847 in Newton County, Arkansas. Dedemiah was the daughter of Jeremiah Daniels and Susannah Self. Susanah Self was the daughter o Levi Self and Sarah Felton. Levi Self was a veteran of the War of 1812. Dedemiah Daniels died about 1860 and in 1861 Levi married Delilah Catherine Lancaster. She was previously married to John A. DePriest.
During the Civil War Levi Newton served in the Confederate Army in Company B, 14th Regiment Arkansas Infantry. According to Widow's Civil War pension application filed 3 July 1897 by his second wife D. C. Casey Levi was killed in the Battle of Pea Ridge on 7 March 1862.

Ambler Casey was born in Morgan County, Tennessee and moved with his family to Newton County, Arkansas by 1850. He married Martha (unknown maiden name) about 1853 and the 1860 census shows them with three children:

Barbara Casey born 1833 in Alabama and had moved with her family to Newton County, Arkansas by 1850. In July 1858 she married Ahijah Snow (per Widow's Civil War pension application) in Newton County, Arkansas. By 1880 Barbara and Ahijah had moved to Fannin County, Texas where Ahijah died 1 July 1883. Ahijah Snow served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Co., F, 1st Regt., Arkansas Volunteers. After his death Barbara applied for a widow's pension (19 July 1890) based on his Civil War military service. Barbara was living in Hunt County, Texas when she applied for the pension
Information from Barbara's pension file shows that she received her last payment on 4 February 1900 and she was dropped from the pension rolls on 31 July 1900 so she obviously died some time between those two dates.
Barbara and Ahijah were the parents of at least nine children.
(1) Lecy Snow Cooper born 1861 (according to cemetery record but she is age 2 on the 1860 census) and died 1 December 1939 Fannin County, Texas.
(2) Jesse S. Snow born August 1859 in Arkansas and died 22 February 1933 in Hall County, Texas.
(3) Martha Ann Snow Arter born 11 March 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas and died 2 July 1935 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma.

(5) Isaac A. Casey born April 1867 in Arkansas died September 1928 in Choctaw County, Oklahoma. He married Mary M. Luich on 18 April 1890 in Fannin County, Texas. Isaac died September 1928 in Choctaw County, Oklahoma.
(6) Emily Snow Pennington born 1870 in Arkansas. Married J. I. Pennington 25 May 1885 in Fannin County, Arkansas
(7) Margaret Snow born 1872 in Texas.

Jesse Clinton Casey was born 15 October 1834 to Jesse E. Casey and Martha "Patsey" Coe. After over forty years of research Jesse Clinton's place of birth has still not been confirmed. All records found for Jesse Clinton (census records, military records, Bible records, death records etc.) indicate he was born in Jersey County, Georgia. There is not now nor has there even been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is now a town called Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it did not come into existence until long after Jesse Clinton's birth. Research seems to confirm that Jesse Clinton's father Jesse E. Casey did travel through Georgia and Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey is listed on the 1830 Morgan County, Tennessee census and then on the 1850 Newton County, Arkansas census. I found a Jesse Casey on the 1834 census in Murray County, Georgia and this could be Jesse E. Casey, father of Jesse Clinton.
By 1850 Jesse Clinton and his family were living in Newton County, Arkansas. There in August 1856 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Snow (as per his Civil War pension papers). During the Civil War Jesse Clinton served in the Union Army in Company E, 2nd Arkansas Infantry. He enrolled 2 September 1863 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and was discharged 8 August 1865. Jesse Clinton's wife Sarah Snow died about 1867 and on 13 February 1868 he married Lydia Harrison. The original marriage record lists her name as Harris but info in Jesse Clinton's pension file shows her name as Harrison. Lydia died about 1874 and in 1876 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Jane Greenaway in Taney County, Missouri (per info from pension file). In a deposition taken from Jesse Clinton Casey on 3 April 1915 in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas he gives names and dates of birth of all his children living and dead and names of his three wives and dates (year) of marriage. This deposition was a document was included in his Civil War pension file. This information is also confirmed by entries in the Jesse Clinton Bible records.

Wesley A. Casey was born 1841 in Arkansas (probably Carroll County) to Jesse E. and Martha "Patsy" Coe Casey. He married Salutee Woodward on 7 November 1858 in Newton County, Arkansas. He enrolled in the Union Army at Clarksville, AR and was mustered into Co. E., 2nd Regiment of Arkansas Vols. at Fort Smith, AR 25 February 1864. He died of pneumonia in Clarksville, AR on 27 May 1864. Salutee married Samuel K. Nicholas 18 September 1867 and they moved to Healdton, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Salutee died 12 December 1918 and is buried in Healdton, Carter County, Oklahoma in Mount Olive Cemetery.

(1) Martha Elizabeth Casey born 1 February 1860 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married Thomas Theophilouss Shelton 8 November 1877 in Johnson County, Arkansas. Martha and Thomas Shelton were the parents of 12 children. Martha died 19 May 1926 in Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas and is buried in the Westbrook Cemetery.
(2) Dennis Casey was born 6 December 1861 in Newton County, Arkansas and died July 1864.

Levi Newton Casey was born 1827 in Morgan County, Tennessee. He married Dedemiah Daniels about 1847 in Newton County, Arkansas. Dedemiah was the daughter of Jeremiah Daniels and Susannah Self. Susanah Self was the daughter o Levi Self and Sarah Felton. Levi Self was a veteran of the War of 1812. Dedemiah Daniels died about 1860 and in 1861 Levi married Delilah Catherine Lancaster. She was previously married to John A. DePriest.
During the Civil War Levi Newton served in the Confederate Army in Company B, 14th Regiment Arkansas Infantry. According to Widow's Civil War pension application filed 3 July 1897 by his second wife D. C. Casey Levi was killed in the Battle of Pea Ridge on 7 March 1862.

By 1880 Barbara and Ahijah had moved to Fannin County, Texas where Ahijah died 1 July 1883. Ahijah Snow served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Co., F, 1st Regt., Arkansas Volunteers. After his death Barbara applied for a widow's pension (19 July 1890) based on his Civil War military service. Barbara was living in Hunt County, Texas when she applied for the pension
Information from Barbara's pension file shows that she received her last payment on 4 February 1900 and she was dropped from the pension rolls on 31 July 1900 so she obviously died some time between those two dates.
Barbara and Ahijah were the parents of at least nine children.

Jesse Clinton Casey was born 15 October 1834 to Jesse E. Casey and Martha "Patsey" Coe. After over forty years of research Jesse Clinton's place of birth has still not been confirmed. All records found for Jesse Clinton (census records, military records, Bible records, death records etc.) indicate he was born in Jersey County, Georgia. There is not now nor has there even been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is now a town called Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it did not come into existence until long after Jesse Clinton's birth. Research seems to confirm that Jesse Clinton's father Jesse E. Casey did travel through Georgia and Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey is listed on the 1830 Morgan County, Tennessee census and then on the 1850 Newton County, Arkansas census. I found a Jesse Casey on the 1834 census in Murray County, Georgia and this could be Jesse E. Casey, father of Jesse Clinton.
By 1850 Jesse Clinton and his family were living in Newton County, Arkansas. There in August 1856 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Snow (as per his Civil War pension papers). During the Civil War Jesse Clinton served in the Union Army in Company E, 2nd Arkansas Infantry. He enrolled 2 September 1863 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and was discharged 8 August 1865. Jesse Clinton's wife Sarah Snow died about 1867 and on 13 February 1868 he married Lydia Harrison. The original marriage record lists her name as Harris but info in Jesse Clinton's pension file shows her name as Harrison. Lydia died about 1874 and in 1876 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Jane Greenaway in Taney County, Missouri (per info from pension file). In a deposition taken from Jesse Clinton Casey on 3 April 1915 in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas he gives names and dates of birth of all his children living and dead and names of his three wives and dates (year) of marriage. This deposition was a document was included in his Civil War pension file. This information is also confirmed by entries in the Jesse Clinton Bible records.

Wesley A. Casey was born 1841 in Arkansas (probably Carroll County) to Jesse E. and Martha "Patsy" Coe Casey. He married Salutee Woodward on 7 November 1858 in Newton County, Arkansas. He enrolled in the Union Army at Clarksville, AR and was mustered into Co. E., 2nd Regiment of Arkansas Vols. at Fort Smith, AR 25 February 1864. He died of pneumonia in Clarksville, AR on 27 May 1864. Salutee married Samuel K. Nicholas 18 September 1867 and they moved to Healdton, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Salutee died 12 December 1918 and is buried in Healdton, Carter County, Oklahoma in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Wesley Allen and Salutee Woodward were the parents of three children:
(1) Martha Elizabeth Casey born 1 February 1860 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married Thomas Theophilouss Shelton 8 November 1877 in Johnson County, Arkansas. Martha and Thomas Shelton were the parents of 12 children. Martha died 19 May 1926 in Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas and is buried in the Westbrook Cemetery.
(2) Dennis Casey was born 6 December 1861 in Newton County, Arkansas and died July 1864.

Jesse E. is thought to be the son of the Jesse Casey who was living in Roane County, Tennessee in the early 1800s. Name of Jesse E's mother has not been proven. Jesse E. married Patsy Coe on 10 May 1817 in Roane County, TN. The marriage bond and license were dated 4 April 1817 but the Justice of the Peace who performed the ceremony (James McPherson) listed the date of the ceremony as 10 May 1817. The actual date is unclear. Jesse and Martha were in Newton County, Arkansas by at least 1841. Jesse E. has not been found on the 1840 census. Jesse E. and Martha were the parents of twelve children. Martha died in Newton County, Arkansas in 1846 and about 1848 Jesse E. married Elizabeth Rash McPherson, widow of Reuben McPherson.
Earlier Casey researchers claimed that Jesse E. Casey's grandparents were Aaron Casey and Mary "Polly" Wayne. Extensive research has been done in the East Tennessee area and we have failed to find any trace of an Aaron Casey. There was an Aaron Casey in Spartanburg, South Carolina but I have copies of the estate papers of both he and his wife and there is no mention of a son Jesse. According to census records Jesse E. Casey was born in Georgia. There are early court records (1800) for a Jesse Casey in Franklin County, Georgia and that same court case was later continued in the court records of Roane County, Tennessee. It is probable that this is Jesse Casey father of Jesse E. There are early Georgia Tax records for Jesse Casey but evidently there were several Jesse Caseys in Georgia during that time period.
Earlier researchers also indicated that in the 1830s Jesse E. Casey moved from Tennessee to Missouri and then to Arkansas. I have not found any evidence to confirm this. Jesse E. Casey had a child born in Georgia and one in Alabama so it seems likely he moved from Tennessee to Georgia and then went through Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey has not been found on the 1840 census but there is a Jesse Casey who appears on an 1834 census of Murray County, Georgia. This was a census taken to enumerate the whites who were living among the Cherokees. There were ten members listed in the family of the Jesse Casey who appeared on this census. It is only speculation that this is Jesse E. Casey but since his son Jesse Clinton Casey insisted until the day he died he was born in Georgia in 1834 it is possible that the Jesse Casey listed on this census is Jesse E. Casey. Jesse Clinton Casey's Civil War pension papers and his death certificate list Jersey County, Georgia as his place of birth but there is not now nor has there ever been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is a town Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it was originally called Centerville and was not renamed Jersey until 1883. (From History of Walton County, Georgia sent to me by Jean Grace)
Many have now given Jesse E. Casey the middle name Elax but I have not found any documentation to support that theory. I have not found any record that shows a middle name. The only Bible record I have seen is the birth, death and marriage pages from the Jesse Clinton Casey Bible. Unfortunately his father Jesse E is not listed in that Bible. Jesse Clinton Casey's son Elax Arastus however is listed in the Bible and that is the only place I have seen the name Elax Casey. If there is a record showing Jesse E. as Jesse Elax I have not seen it. Jesse Clinton Casey's death certificate shows a middle for his father but it doesn't make sense. The name begins with an "A" not an "E" . I have been working on this for several years but have not found anything that
confirms or disproves the information on the death certificate.
Casey DNA testing is now ongoing and results so far are interesting but not conclusive. A descendant of Jesse E. Casey was tested and he is a 111 marker match with a descendant of Ambler Casey. It has long been thought that Ambler and Jesse E. were closely related. This test seems to indicate that they were probably brothers. Tests results show that the SC cluster (Jesse E and Ambler are in this cluster) is the most closely related cluster and more than likely most of the oldest proven ancestors of this group are brothers, first cousins, second cousins, etc.. Polly Casey was born ca. 1818 and married John Farmer. No other info has been found on Polly Casey. The only info came from the article in the Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region. The book was published in 1894 and the article indicates Polly was deceased at the time the article was written so she died sometime before that date (1894).
Stephen Casey born about 1821 in Morgan County, TN. He died sometime after July 1896. On that date he applied for a pension based on his Civil War service. He does not appear on the 1900 census so it is assumed he died after the pension application was filed and before the 1900 census. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 13 July 1861 in Company B 14th Regiment Arkansas Volunteers. He served one year as a Corporal and received a disability discharge. Stephen married twice. First to Sarah Wilkins about 1840. They were the parents of eight children. Stephen's second wife was Mary Jane Angel. They married about 1867. Stephen and Mary Jane were the parents of six children.
Temperance Malinda Casey was born 18 May 1822 in Morgan County, TN. She married Thomas Farmer ca 1841, Sometime between 1862 and 1870 they moved to Texas. Thomas Farmer evidently died there sometime between 1870 and 1880 and Temperance is listed on the 1880 census as a widow and head of the household. Her sons John, Jesse and Joseph are living with her. Between 1891 and 1894 Temperance and several of her family members moved to Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory and there she died 19 August 1899. She is buried in the Victory Cemetery in Fittstown, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. Temperance and Thomas Farmer were the parents of sixteen children.
Elijah Simmons born ca 1823 in Morgan Co., TN. He married Nancy Wilkins.ca 1840. No marriage record has been found but Jesse Newton Casey son of Elijah and Nancy submitted a 1911 Civil War Veteran's Questionaire and in it he confirmed not only that his father was Elijah Simmons Casey but also that his mother's maiden name was Wilkins. Supposedly Elijah died in 1894 in Tarrant County, Texas. This information came from a tale related by William Jasper Casey (son of Elijah) in one of the S. C. Turnbo Sketches - Jumping Astride of a Panther and Hitting it in the Head With An AX. This date has not been confirmed by any other source nor is there any information about a place of burial for Elijah. An article on the Caseys in Reminiscent History of the Ozarks (written in 1894) states that Elijah Casey was living in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) at the time the article was written. There is conflicting information here about where Elijah was in 1894. The source for dates of birth, marriage and death of many of Elijah's descendants is a Bible record of James Marion Casey a grandson of Elijah. Elijah Simmons Casey and Nancy Wilkins were the parents of at least eight children.
Elizabeth Casey born 20 March 1825 in Morgan County, TN. She married Zachariah Beckham ca. 1843. Zachariah Beckham was born 1824 in Tennessee. During the Civil War he served in Company K, Colonel Hill's Regiment. He was wounded in action at Pilot Knob, Missouri in October 1864 and was taken prisoner and moved to Alton Prison in Illinois where he died 17 December 1864. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Alton, Illinois. His wife Elizabeth applied for a Widow's pension and several men who gave depositions in support of her claim confirmed that they saw Zachariah Beckham when he was shot and carried from the battlefield at Pilot Knob. Elizabeth Beckham died 4 October 1909 and is buried in Walnut Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. Elizabeth and Zachariah Beckham were the parents of eleven children:

Wesley A. Casey was born 1841 in Arkansas (probably Carroll County) to Jesse E. and Martha "Patsy" Coe Casey. He married Salutee Woodward on 7 November 1858 in Newton County, Arkansas. He enrolled in the Union Army at Clarksville, AR and was mustered into Co. E., 2nd Regiment of Arkansas Vols. at Fort Smith, AR 25 February 1864. He died of pneumonia in Clarksville, AR on 27 May 1864. Salutee married Samuel K. Nicholas 18 September 1867 and they moved to Healdton, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Salutee died 12 December 1918 and is buried in Healdton, Carter County, Oklahoma in Mount Olive Cemetery.
Wesley Allen and Salutee Woodward were the parents of three children:
(1) Martha Elizabeth Casey born 1 February 1860 in Newton County, Arkansas. She married Thomas Theophilouss Shelton 8 November 1877 in Johnson County, Arkansas. Martha and Thomas Shelton were the parents of 12 children. Martha died 19 May 1926 in Westbrook, Mitchell County, Texas and is buried in the Westbrook Cemetery.
(2) Dennis Casey was born 6 December 1861 in Newton County, Arkansas and died July 1864.
(3) Jessie Casey was born 13 December 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas and died August 1864/

Earlier Casey researchers claimed that Jesse E. Casey's grandparents were Aaron Casey and Mary "Polly" Wayne. Extensive research has been done in the East Tennessee area and we have failed to find any trace of an Aaron Casey. There was an Aaron Casey in Spartanburg, South Carolina but I have copies of the estate papers of both he and his wife and there is no mention of a son Jesse. According to census records Jesse E. Casey was born in Georgia. There are early court records (1800) for a Jesse Casey in Franklin County, Georgia and that same court case was later continued in the court records of Roane County, Tennessee. It is probable that this is Jesse Casey father of Jesse E. There are early Georgia Tax records for Jesse Casey but evidently there were several Jesse Caseys in Georgia during that time period.
Earlier researchers also indicated that in the 1830s Jesse E. Casey moved from Tennessee to Missouri and then to Arkansas. I have not found any evidence to confirm this. Jesse E. Casey had a child born in Georgia and one in Alabama so it seems likely he moved from Tennessee to Georgia and then went through Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey has not been found on the 1840 census but there is a Jesse Casey who appears on an 1834 census of Murray County, Georgia. This was a census taken to enumerate the whites who were living among the Cherokees. There were ten members listed in the family of the Jesse Casey who appeared on this census. It is only speculation that this is Jesse E. Casey but since his son Jesse Clinton Casey insisted until the day he died he was born in Georgia in 1834 it is possible that the Jesse Casey listed on this census is Jesse E. Casey. Jesse Clinton Casey's Civil War pension papers and his death certificate list Jersey County, Georgia as his place of birth but there is not now nor has there ever been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is a town Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it was originally called Centerville and was not renamed Jersey until 1883. (From History of Walton County, Georgia sent to me by Jean Grace)
Many have now given Jesse E. Casey the middle name Elax but I have not found any documentation to support that theory. I have not found any record that shows a middle name. The only Bible record I have seen is the birth, death and marriage pages from the Jesse Clinton Casey Bible. Unfortunately his father Jesse E is not listed in that Bible. Jesse Clinton Casey's son Elax Arastus however is listed in the Bible and that is the only place I have seen the name Elax Casey. If there is a record showing Jesse E. as Jesse Elax I have not seen it. Jesse Clinton Casey's death certificate shows a middle for his father but it doesn't make sense. The name begins with an "A" not an "E" . I have been working on this for several years but have not found anything that
confirms or disproves the information on the death certificate.
Casey DNA testing is now ongoing and results so far are interesting but not conclusive. A descendant of Jesse E. Casey was tested and he is a 111 marker match with a descendant of Ambler Casey. It has long been thought that Ambler and Jesse E. were closely related. This test seems to indicate that they were probably brothers. Tests results show that the SC cluster (Jesse E and Ambler are in this cluster) is the most closely related cluster and more than likely most of the oldest proven ancestors of this group are brothers, first cousins, second cousins, etc.. Jesse E. Casey and Martha "Patsy" Coe were the parents of twelve Children:
Polly Casey was born ca. 1818 and married John Farmer. No other info has been found on Polly Casey. The only info came from the article in the Reminiscent History of the Ozark Region. The book was published in 1894 and the article indicates Polly was deceased at the time the article was written so she died sometime before that date (1894).
Stephen Casey born about 1821 in Morgan County, TN. He died sometime after July 1896. On that date he applied for a pension based on his Civil War service. He does not appear on the 1900 census so it is assumed he died after the pension application was filed and before the 1900 census. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 13 July 1861 in Company B 14th Regiment Arkansas Volunteers. He served one year as a Corporal and received a disability discharge. Stephen married twice. First to Sarah Wilkins about 1840. They were the parents of eight children. Stephen's second wife was Mary Jane Angel. They married about 1867. Stephen and Mary Jane were the parents of six children.
Temperance Malinda Casey was born 18 May 1822 in Morgan County, TN. She married Thomas Farmer ca 1841, Sometime between 1862 and 1870 they moved to Texas. Thomas Farmer evidently died there sometime between 1870 and 1880 and Temperance is listed on the 1880 census as a widow and head of the household. Her sons John, Jesse and Joseph are living with her. Between 1891 and 1894 Temperance and several of her family members moved to Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory and there she died 19 August 1899. She is buried in the Victory Cemetery in Fittstown, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. Temperance and Thomas Farmer were the parents of sixteen children.
Elijah Simmons born ca 1823 in Morgan Co., TN. He married Nancy Wilkins.ca 1840. No marriage record has been found but Jesse Newton Casey son of Elijah and Nancy submitted a 1911 Civil War Veteran's Questionaire and in it he confirmed not only that his father was Elijah Simmons Casey but also that his mother's maiden name was Wilkins. Supposedly Elijah died in 1894 in Tarrant County, Texas. This information came from a tale related by William Jasper Casey (son of Elijah) in one of the S. C. Turnbo Sketches - Jumping Astride of a Panther and Hitting it in the Head With An AX. This date has not been confirmed by any other source nor is there any information about a place of burial for Elijah. An article on the Caseys in Reminiscent History of the Ozarks (written in 1894) states that Elijah Casey was living in Indian Territory (Oklahoma) at the time the article was written. There is conflicting information here about where Elijah was in 1894. The source for dates of birth, marriage and death of many of Elijah's descendants is a Bible record of James Marion Casey a grandson of Elijah. Elijah Simmons Casey and Nancy Wilkins were the parents of at least eight children.
Elizabeth Casey born 20 March 1825 in Morgan County, TN. She married Zachariah Beckham ca. 1843. Zachariah Beckham was born 1824 in Tennessee. During the Civil War he served in Company K, Colonel Hill's Regiment. He was wounded in action at Pilot Knob, Missouri in October 1864 and was taken prisoner and moved to Alton Prison in Illinois where he died 17 December 1864. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Alton, Illinois. His wife Elizabeth applied for a Widow's pension and several men who gave depositions in support of her claim confirmed that they saw Zachariah Beckham when he was shot and carried from the battlefield at Pilot Knob. Elizabeth Beckham died 4 October 1909 and is buried in Walnut Cemetery in Newton County, Arkansas. Elizabeth and Zachariah Beckham were the parents of eleven children:

Levi Newton Casey was born 1827 in Morgan County, Tennessee. He married Dedemiah Daniels about 1847 in Newton County, Arkansas. Dedemiah was the daughter of Jeremiah Daniels and Susannah Self. Susanah Self was the daughter o Levi Self and Sarah Felton. Levi Self was a veteran of the War of 1812. Dedemiah Daniels died about 1860 and in 1861 Levi married Delilah Catherine Lancaster. She was previously married to John A. DePriest.
During the Civil War Levi Newton served in the Confederate Army in Company B, 14th Regiment Arkansas Infantry. According to Widow's Civil War pension application filed 3 July 1897 by his second wife D. C. Casey Levi was killed in the Battle of Pea Ridge on 7 March 1862.

Ambler Casey was born in Morgan County, Tennessee and moved with his family to Newton County, Arkansas by 1850. He married Martha (unknown maiden name) about 1853 and the 1860 census shows them with three children:

Barbara Casey born 1833 in Alabama and had moved with her family to Newton County, Arkansas by 1850. In July 1858 she married Ahijah Snow (per Widow's Civil War pension application) in Newton County, Arkansas. By 1880 Barbara and Ahijah had moved to Fannin County, Texas where Ahijah died 1 July 1883. Ahijah Snow served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Co., F, 1st Regt., Arkansas Volunteers. After his death Barbara applied for a widow's pension (19 July 1890) based on his Civil War military service. Barbara was living in Hunt County, Texas when she applied for the pension
Information from Barbara's pension file shows that she received her last payment on 4 February 1900 and she was dropped from the pension rolls on 31 July 1900 so she obviously died some time between those two dates.
Barbara and Ahijah were the parents of at least nine children.
(1) Lecy Snow Cooper born 1861 (according to cemetery record but she is age 2 on the 1860 census) and died 1 December 1939 Fannin County, Texas.
(2) Jesse S. Snow born August 1859 in Arkansas and died 22 February 1933 in Hall County, Texas.
(3) Martha Ann Snow Arter born 11 March 1862 in Newton County, Arkansas and died 2 July 1935 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma.
(4) Janie Casey born 1864 in Arkansas.
(5) Isaac A. Casey born April 1867 in Arkansas died September 1928 in Choctaw County, Oklahoma. He married Mary M. Luich on 18 April 1890 in Fannin County, Texas. Isaac died September 1928 in Choctaw County, Oklahoma.
(6) Emily Snow Pennington born 1870 in Arkansas. Married J. I. Pennington 25 May 1885 in Fannin County, Arkansas

Jesse Clinton Casey was born 15 October 1834 to Jesse E. Casey and Martha "Patsey" Coe. After over forty years of research Jesse Clinton's place of birth has still not been confirmed. All records found for Jesse Clinton (census records, military records, Bible records, death records etc.) indicate he was born in Jersey County, Georgia. There is not now nor has there even been a Jersey County, Georgia. There is now a town called Jersey in Walton County, Georgia but it did not come into existence until long after Jesse Clinton's birth. Research seems to confirm that Jesse Clinton's father Jesse E. Casey did travel through Georgia and Alabama on his way to Arkansas. Jesse E. Casey is listed on the 1830 Morgan County, Tennessee census and then on the 1850 Newton County, Arkansas census. I found a Jesse Casey on the 1834 census in Murray County, Georgia and this could be Jesse E. Casey, father of Jesse Clinton.
By 1850 Jesse Clinton and his family were living in Newton County, Arkansas. There in August 1856 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Snow (as per his Civil War pension papers). During the Civil War Jesse Clinton served in the Union Army in Company E, 2nd Arkansas Infantry. He enrolled 2 September 1863 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and was discharged 8 August 1865. Jesse Clinton's wife Sarah Snow died about 1867 and on 13 February 1868 he married Lydia Harrison. The original marriage record lists her name as Harris but info in Jesse Clinton's pension file shows her name as Harrison. Lydia died about 1874 and in 1876 Jesse Clinton married Sarah Jane Greenaway in Taney County, Missouri (per info from pension file). In a deposition taken from Jesse Clinton Casey on 3 April 1915 in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas he gives names and dates of birth of all his children living and dead and names of his three wives and dates (year) of marriage. This deposition was a document was included in his Civil War pension file. This information is also confirmed by entries in the Jesse Clinton Bible records.
