Married March 23, 1884, in Carroll County, Georgia, to Susan Perloney JENNINGS. Father of 7 children, six of whom survived him. Headed a household as a machinist on the 1900 census of General Militia District #668 (Lower Town District) in City Ward 6, Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. Grave is evidently not currently marked and its location within the cemetery is not known.

"Mr. Barney NEWSOM Died on Sunday: Although Ill for a Long Time, Confined to Bed But Three Weeks

"After an illness of about three months, being confined to his bed for the past three weeks, Mr. Barney NEWSOM, aged 45 years, died at his residence, 1313 Eighteenth street, at 7:15 o'clock Sunday evening. The deceased was well known in the city and had many friends who were pained to learn of his death. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him and was a man of exemplary character. Besides his wife he is survived by six children as follows: Misses Lillie, Mattine, Hattie and Lona and Messrs. Robert and Roy NEWSOME, all of Columbus. He is also survived by two brothers, Messrs. C[harlie] D[evotie] of Columbus, and Andrew [B.] NEWSOM, of Bessemer, Ala., and two sisters, Mrs. J. R. J. R. [sic] ADERHOLD and Miss Rilla NEWSOM, of Girard, Ala. Her [sic] remains will be carried to Banning, Ga., on the 6:15 o'clock train Tuesday morning, where the funeral and interment will take place at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, the interment being at Antioch church in Banning. The services will be conducted by Elder HEMERY [?], of the Primitive Baptist church, and the following have been requested to act as pall bearers to the train. Messrs. G. B. S. MEDLOCK, W. W.
