Called Henry; middle name is said to be Mims. Son of James & Elizabeth (NEWSOM) NEWSOME of Warren, Marion, and Harris Counties, Georgia; after James died, widow Elizabeth moved the family to Clapp's Factory in Muscogee County. This name is often spelled NEWSOM in various records. Henry married first 16 DEC 1855 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Mary Ellen ABNEY (1837-1863), who is probably buried in the Clapp's Factory Cemetery. Henry married second 31 JAN 1864 in Muscogee County to Permelia A. PAGE. Henry served in the CSA, Georgia 19th Battalion, Company E "Clapp's Factory Guards," a Home Guard unit made up of men too old or too young to serve in regular service, plus personnel stationed at the textile mill as skilled labor. Because the family were mill workers, I suspect the grave marker was placed by the UDC or the SCV. Father of eight children. The name of this cemetery is Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at Banning, GA.
