Former Principal In Hanover Dies

Herman William Weidner, who served as principal of the Hanover High School at the turn of the century, died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday at the Pape convalescent home, Gettysburg R. D. 3, at the age of 92.

He was born near Idaville, Adams County, and was the last surviving son of the late Stephen and Barbara Guise Weidner.

Mr. Weidner attended the Idaville school, was graduated from Millersville State Normal School in 1891 and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, in 1898.

He was head of the high school here from 1899 to 1900. He taught fro 24 years in a consolidated school system in Vineland and Landis Township, N.J., and later was superintendent of schools there. He retired after 43 years of teaching and moved to 150 Seminary Avenue, Gettysburg.

Mr. Weidner was a member of the National Educational Association and Vineland Lodge 69, F & AM. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg.

Surviving are three sons, Lloyd V., Gettysburg; Dean H.., Yardley, and Bruce V. Weidner, Oxford, Ohio, and three grandchildren. His wife, Estella Van Scoyoc Weidner, died in 1950.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Koons, his pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Dwight S. Putman, Harrisburg, president of the Pennsylvania Synod, United Lutheran Church in America, at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bender funeral home, Gettysburg. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, York Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow between 7 and 9 p.m.
